KLAFW 2005 TO BEDAZZLE WITH STUNNING 5 DAY FASHION SHOWCASE

20 Nov 2005 | Things are heating up in the city as the largest fashion marathon in Asia, Kuala Lumpur-Asia Fashion Week 2005 will soon be turning Kuala Lumpur into a "Tropic of Fashion", where "high fashion meets the tropic sun", when KLAFW opens its doors from 23 rd to 27th November.

An event to be attended by the region's leading fashion designers, retailers, buyers and media, KLAFW will be held concurrently at the ultra modern avenue K, the Official Venue and the state of the art Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the Gala Showcase Venue. Over 90 fashion designers from 17 Asian countries will showcase the region's newest and best Spring/Summer'06 creations over 5 days of non-stop fashion extravaganza called the Collection Showcase.

A total of 7 Day Shows, grouped by country, will showcase on the aptly themed "City in the Forest" stage at the ultra modern avenue K, ground concourse.  Top designers from Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam will come together to showcase the newest and freshest in ready-to-wear fashion during these Day Shows.

In the evenings the stars come out in full force, where the designers, throwing caution to the wind, will flaunt their most creative couture collections to an elite audience of fashion professionals, society belles and international media at 4 Gala Shows to be held at the newly constructed Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.  Attendance is strictly by invitation only and those lucky enough to land a ticket will be treated to a delicious display of the region's most chic and glamorous of fashion exhibitions.

First up is 'Asia Magic' featuring eight designers from the fashion capitals of the region - Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia and China. Hosted by Tourism Malaysia, 'Asia Magic' will most certainly be one of the most impressive Collection Showcases of haute couture for the week.   Be dazzled by the creations of Michael Ong ( Malaysia), Nicola Finetti (Australia), Claire Fang (China), Dorian Ho (Hong Kong), Puneet Nanda (India), Oscar Lawalata (Indonesia), Frederick Lee ( Singapore) and Gioia Pan (Taiwan).

Make a date for a fashionable Friday with 'Tribute to Fashion' .  This special gala showcase promises to be yet another evening of fashion spectacular, this time with the masters of fashion from Malaysia, featuring Albert King, Bill Keith, Eric Choong, Edmund Ser and Radzuan Radziwill.   The evening will be given a Belgian flavour as guest designer from Belgium, Nicky Vankets presents his collection, Mathyro.

"KL Six" - Malaysia's very own "item du jour" in fashion, is an entity created to represent the Malaysian face of fashion abroad to promote the Malaysian name, will be putting on a fashion fiesta for the guests with another round of runway genius.   Don't miss an evening with the Bernard Chandran, Daniel Cho, Khoon Hooi, Melinda Looi, Tom Abang Saufi and Villiam Ooi, all renowned for their unique and individual styles, as they knock out rare pieces for a night of visual spectacular.

The jewel in the crown of KLAFW is of course the prestigious awards ceremony, the MIFA Gala, the grand finale of a nearly a week of fashion.  Renowned for creating stars over night, the MIFA Gala promises not only an evening filled with enough suspense to keep you perched at the edge of your seat, but also a night of show stopping fashion and star gazing at the many celebrities attending the event.

The event also includes the Asian Bazaar, featuring a Trade Exhibition and Grand Sale where over 40 booths will exhibit fashion goods and products from batik and crafts to discounted designer clothes and other accessories.

To further enhance the event as not just a fashion show, several fashion workshops including a make up workshop have been organized throughout the week to cater to both fashion professionals and the public at avenue K
